treats

treats is an exploration of young adulthood captured through a series of paintings depicting the mundane yet intimate scenes that are experienced within my sharehouse. The audience is invited to witness the daily motions and repetitions of the collective living spaces, offering glimpses of ordinary objects that build a narrative of those who occupy them. Panoramic compositions provide a wide angle that is suggestive of a digital setting and provides my own point-of-view, immersing viewers and welcoming them to a landscape with expressive brushstrokes reminiscent of the styles by Impressionists such as Bonnard and Vuillard. While inspired by these traditional techniques, my work recontextualises its subject matter within the context of modern-day Australia, offering an alternative perspective on the experience of twenty-something-year-olds navigating the complexities of the beginnings of their adult lives. Central to the narrative are the household objects and personal belongings that populate our space, each imbued with the unique personalities and histories of those who inhabit the house. These seemingly mundane items serve as silent witnesses to the random convergence of three individuals, each bringing their own background and personal quirks to the overall experience of shared living.
